What Pika is
Pika started as one of the best-known AI video generators, with its own models and viral effects like Pikaffects. In September 2026 the company relaunched it. Pika calls the result “the new Pika”: one app for video, image and sound, with leading third-party models underneath and focused creative apps on top.
The homepage now says “Every model you need to make anything you want.” The model list includes Seedance 2.5, Pika 2.5, MiniMax H3, Wan 3.0, Grok Imagine 1.5 and Gemini 1.1 Omni Flash for video, GPT Image 2.5 and Nano Banana 2 for images, and Pika’s own audio models. Pika says the launch included more than 25 apps, and its ChatGPT plugin offers 40+ apps and 100+ models.
So Pika is still a video generator. It is just no longer mainly a Pika-model generator. Think of it as a simple front end to many models, packaged as small tools.
The old interface lives at old.pika.art for now. Pika says it will give notice before shutting it down.
Who it is for
Pika fits you if:
- You make social videos, ads or product content and want quick, focused tools.
- You want Seedance 2.5 or MiniMax H3 at a low entry price.
- You need video, images and sound in one place, for example a product shot, a clip and a soundtrack.
- You like Pika’s effect tools, such as Pikaffects and Pikaframes, which are still in the app.
- You want to call video models from ChatGPT or an AI agent through MCP.
Skip it if:
- You want a real free tier. The free account has no monthly credits.
- You need deep editing on long footage. Runway goes further with its editing models and plugins.
- You need a strict guarantee your uploads are not used for training. Pika’s help center says it may use them to improve its models.
How it works
Pika is a web app built around apps, not a single prompt box. Each app does one job and picks a suitable model for you, though you can choose the model yourself.
Video Studio
Video Studio is the main generator. Pika says you can make anything from a short clip to a multi-shot video of up to 30 seconds with sound. You can attach up to 50 references, such as characters, products, settings or styles, and @mention them in your prompt. Each app shows the estimated credit cost before you generate.
Length and resolution depend on the model you choose. Longer clips and higher resolutions cost more.
Pika’s own tools
Two of Pika’s best-known features survived the relaunch:
- Pikaframes animates between 2 to 5 still images, using Pika 2.5.
- Pikaffects turns a photo into an effect video.
Working on existing clips
Several apps edit footage you already have:
- Extend Video adds frames to the start or end of a clip.
- Color Grade changes color, contrast and mood.
- Relight Media changes lighting.
- Camera Director controls camera moves.
- Pika Soundtrack scores a clip with music, ambience and foley matched to the action.
Images and audio
Image Studio, Edit Image and Product Shot cover stills. Character Studio lets you build a character once and reuse it. For sound, Pika released four of its own models in August 2026: Soundtrack, Music, SFX and Speech, which Pika says can clone a voice from a short clip.
ChatGPT, MCP and the API
Pika for ChatGPT, launched October 16, 2026, puts the apps inside ChatGPT conversations. Pika MCP does the same for other AI agents. Developers get a separate product, the Pika API Club: a $10 monthly membership with $10 of credit in the first month and access to 100+ models through one key. Pika claims its API prices are up to 88% cheaper than other aggregators. API billing is separate, and your Pika plan credits do not work there.
There is also an iOS app. Subscriptions bought through Apple are managed in your Apple settings.
Output quality
We have not run Pika ourselves for this review. Some points from its own pages:
- Quality depends on the model you pick. Most of the output in the new Pika comes from third-party models, so a Seedance 2.5 clip in Pika should look like a Seedance 2.5 clip elsewhere. Compare prices, not only quality.
- Pika 2.5 is still there. Pika has not published a detailed write-up of Pika 2.5 on its blog. It now powers specific tools like Pikaframes rather than the whole app.
- No watermark on any plan. Pika says downloads on current plans, including Free, have no watermark. Files made under older plans keep theirs.
- Pika targets professional use. It names ad creatives, editors, marketers and filmmakers as its users. Treat that as positioning until you test it on your own work.
Pricing
Pika charges in credits. Every plan, including Free, gets all models and apps. Plans differ in monthly credits, how many generations run at once, the commercial license and the priority queue.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Free | No monthly credits, buy packs, no commercial license |
| Starter | $8/mo yearly, $10 monthly | 900 credits, 2 videos at once |
| Creator | $28/mo yearly, $35 monthly | 3,150 credits, 8 videos at once, commercial license |
| Fancy | From $76/mo yearly, $95 monthly | 8,550 credits and up, unlimited parallel, priority queue |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom credits, dedicated support |
What credits buy
Pika’s pricing page lists credit costs for a few models:
- Seedance 2.5, 720p, 5 seconds: 122 credits.
- Wan 3.0, 720p, 5 seconds: 33 credits.
- Nano Banana 2, one 1K image: 8 credits.
- GPT Image 2.5, one 1K image: 2 credits.
Worked out per plan:
- Starter (900 credits): about 7 Seedance 2.5 clips, or 27 Wan 3.0 clips. That is roughly 35 seconds of Seedance or 2 minutes of Wan a month.
- Creator (3,150 credits): about 25 Seedance clips (about 2 minutes) or 95 Wan clips.
- Fancy (8,550 credits): about 70 Seedance clips or 259 Wan clips. A slider raises Fancy to about 79,000 credits for $880 a month.
Pika does not list the credit cost of Pika 2.5 on its pricing page. The app shows it before you generate.
Credit packs
Top-ups cost 60 credits per $1 on every plan. Packs run from 1,500 credits for $25 (about 12 Seedance clips) to 66,000 for $1,000, which includes a 10% bonus. Pack credits last 365 days. They work in Pika on the web and through Pika MCP, but not in the API, the iOS app or old.pika.art.
Compare that with plan credits. Starter gives 900 credits for $10, or 90 per dollar. Packs give 60 per dollar. If you generate every month, a plan is cheaper. If you generate a few times a year, packs may be enough, but you lose the commercial license on Free.
Things to know before you pay
- Monthly credits do not roll over, even on yearly plans.
- The commercial license is unclear on Starter. The pricing table marks it from Creator up, while the help center says all paid plans include commercial use. Check the terms if you sell your work.
- No refunds. Pika says subscriptions and packs are non-refundable. Cancelling stops renewal and you keep access until the period ends.
- Yearly saves 20%. The listed yearly prices match that.
- Failed generations. Pika’s help center has a section on failed generations that cost credits. Contact support if one fails and your balance drops.
- Parallel limits matter. Starter runs only 2 videos at once, the same as Free. If you batch many variants, Creator’s 8 slots save real time.
How Pika compares
Pika now competes less with single-model makers and more with multi-model suites like Krea, Higgsfield and Runway’s own model menu. Its pitch is price and simplicity. Pika says Seedance generations cost half as much as on other creation platforms at launch. We cannot verify that across every rival, but $10 a month for access to Seedance 2.5 is low.
Against Runway, Pika is lighter. Runway trains frontier models, offers deeper editing with Aleph, and has Premiere and After Effects plugins. Pika is quicker to learn and cheaper to start. Against PixVerse, Pika has a wider model menu, while PixVerse has its own model, a big template library and a recurring free allowance.
Verdict
Pika has reinvented itself. The single-model generator famous for Pikaffects is now a broad creative app with Seedance, MiniMax, Wan and its own models behind small, focused tools. That makes it flexible and cheap to start, with clear published credit costs and no watermark on any plan.
The trade-offs are real. There is no recurring free allowance, Starter buys only a handful of Seedance clips, and monthly credits reset. Pika’s own model is now one option among many. If you want a simple, low-cost way to try several leading models, start on monthly Starter and check the credit estimate on each app. If you need commercial rights without doubt, go straight to Creator.
