What Hooked is
Hooked is an AI video studio for short vertical videos, now sold together with a video course on making UGC-style ads. It used to be called Vidme.ai. That domain now redirects to hooked.so.
The product has two halves:
- Hooked Studio, the app. You pick a format, such as a talking-avatar ad, a TikTok slideshow or a narrated story, give it an idea or script, and it generates a video you can edit, export or schedule.
- The course, a set of video lessons on hooks, angles and scripts for UGC ads. Every lesson ends with a prompt that opens straight in the app.
What makes Hooked stand out is how you pay. You can subscribe like any other tool. Or you can pay once for lifetime access and plug in your own AI accounts, so generation is billed at the providers’ own rates. Very few tools in this category offer that.
Who it is for
Hooked fits you if:
- You sell a product online and want a steady supply of UGC-style ads with AI presenters.
- You are new to ads and want someone to explain angles, hooks and scripts, not just hand you a generator.
- You hate subscriptions and are comfortable creating API accounts with OpenRouter and ElevenLabs.
- You run faceless or slideshow accounts on TikTok and want those formats in the same app as your ads.
- You manage several brands and want one license instead of paying per seat.
Skip it if:
- You want to clip your existing long videos into Shorts. Hooked generates new videos from ideas and scripts. It is not a podcast or stream clipper.
- You need to try before you pay. We found no free plan, and lifetime packs are final sale.
- You already run paid social for a living. Hooked’s own course page says it is built to start from zero and “may run short” for experienced ad buyers.
- You want a tool with calm, consistent documentation. More on that below.
How it works
The public app page shows the core flow. A prompt box sits in the middle with an “Auto-detect” format option, an “Add context” button and an aspect-ratio picker set to 9:16. Underneath are shortcuts for Get trends, Script to Video, Create UGC Ad and TikTok Slideshow.
Hooked describes the workflow in four steps:
- Choose a format. Slideshow, narrated story, animated character or talking avatar.
- Add your idea or script. Describe the topic and shape the hook, language and message.
- Generate and refine. Review the result and adjust scenes and timing in the editor.
- Export or publish. Download the file or connect a social account to publish or schedule it.
The formats
Hooked lists more than 20 formats. The ones it showcases are:
- UGC to camera: one AI creator delivering a message straight to camera.
- UGC with product: the avatar demonstrates or talks about your product.
- Fashion and cosmetics: outfit changes, application shots and close-ups.
- Podcast and dualcast: two AI people talking at microphones.
- TikTok slideshows: image carousels with text overlays, in TikTok’s native slideshow style.
- Script to Video: a script turned into scenes, narration and captions.
- Reddit stories: narration over background footage.
- PDF to brainrot: a document turned into a narrated short.
- Animated creatives: animated characters with voices, listed as “coming soon” in the course.
The pricing page lists 83 avatars and 76 voices across 25 languages. The FAQ elsewhere on the site says 100+ avatars, 100+ voices and 30+ languages. We could not see inside the app to settle which is current, so treat the smaller numbers as the safer bet.
The course
The course is the new headline on the homepage. Its curriculum lists onboarding, an AI model catalog, method fundamentals and a long formats module with lessons on UGC with and without a product, fashion, a workout app example, podcast, voice-over, dualcast, viral trends and static images. A voice-cloning module is marked “work in progress” and animated creatives “coming soon”.
The homepage promises “3+ hours of video lessons”. The curriculum on the same page totals 1 hour 13 minutes. The gap may be extra material outside the listed modules, but the page does not explain it.
The idea behind the course is sound. Hooked’s founder argues that what makes an ad sell is the angle and the script, not the tool. The course teaches how to read where your buyer is (unaware, comparing, ready) and write a three-second hook for that stage. Then the lesson prompt opens in the builder so you can generate the ad straight away.
Bring your own keys
On the lifetime packs, Hooked does not sell you credits. You connect your own OpenRouter account (for the language and video models) and ElevenLabs account (for voices). Each generation is billed by those providers. Hooked says the app shows you the provider cost before every generation, that it adds zero markup, and that a finished ad typically costs under $1.
This is a real advantage if you make a lot of videos. It also has real costs:
- Setting up keys takes time. One review Hooked quotes on its own page says it “took me an evening”.
- You now watch three bills: Hooked once, plus OpenRouter and ElevenLabs every month.
- If a provider raises prices, your cost per video goes up. Hooked cannot control that.
If that sounds like a chore, the $29 Pro plan runs the AI for you with included credits.
Publishing and automation
Hooked includes a content scheduler for TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, plus what the pricing page calls “3 channels, 3 auto-channels”. Its FAQ describes automated slideshow campaigns that generate and publish on a schedule. There is also an API, an agency mode and pages for MCP and AI agent integrations, aimed at people who want to drive Hooked from other tools.
Output quality
We have not generated videos in Hooked, so we cannot judge the output first-hand. Here is what Hooked says and what to watch for.
The homepage logo strip lists OpenAI, Wan, Pika, Topaz Labs, sync. and Kling, and the app page adds Claude. So Hooked is a studio that orchestrates other companies’ models, not a model maker. The look of your avatar ads depends heavily on which models sit underneath at the time.
Hooked’s FAQ says its avatars generate voice and lip movement together, with control over emotional delivery. It also recommends keeping clips between 15 and 90 seconds “for optimal realism, especially for advertising”. That is a fair warning. AI avatar ads still give themselves away on longer takes, with stiff gestures, odd hands and lip-sync drift.
Generation time, according to Hooked, is usually 2 to 5 minutes per video, and several can run in parallel.
The testimonials on the site are enthusiastic, but they are curated by Hooked. One of them flags a real gap: avatar casting needed more men over 50. If your audience skews older, look through the avatar library before you commit.
Pricing
Prices below were read from hooked.so/pricing and the homepage on October 19, 2026.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | $29/mo or $290/yr | 1,000 credits a month, every format, publishing, API |
| Credit packs | From $19 | Extra credits for Pro that never expire |
| Pack Course | $49 once | The course and prompts only, no app |
| Pack App | $89 once | Lifetime Studio, pay AI providers directly |
| Complete Pack | $99 once | Course plus app |
Things the pricing page does not make obvious:
- The lifetime price is not the total price. You still pay OpenRouter and ElevenLabs for every generation. Hooked says normal use is “a few dollars a month”, but that depends entirely on how much you make.
- The sale timer is out of date. A banner says the $99 Complete Pack launch price ends October 15, then goes back to $348. When we checked on October 19 the banner and the $99 price were both still live. Prices may change without notice, so check the page on the day you buy.
- Pro credits run out. Hooked estimates 1,000 credits at about 10 UGC ads or 250 images a month. If you plan to post daily ads, budget for credit packs or consider the lifetime route.
- No refunds on lifetime packs. The FAQ says all sales are final because access is instant. It does promise that a human will help if there is a genuine problem with your purchase.
Which option makes sense
- You want to test the waters: Pro for one month is the lowest-risk way in, since you can cancel.
- You will make dozens of videos a month and can handle API keys: Pack App or Complete Pack will likely cost less over a year.
- You only want to learn the method: Pack Course at $49, then use whatever tools you already have.
Verdict
Hooked is one of the more interesting products in short-form AI video, mostly because of its pricing. Paying once and generating at cost is rare, and for high-volume ecommerce sellers it could be much cheaper than any subscription. The course is a good idea too. Knowing why an ad works matters more than which generator you use.
The caution is about trust, not features. The site is packed with urgency, its own numbers disagree in several places, and lifetime purchases cannot be refunded. Start with a month of Pro if you can, check the avatar library and output quality on your own product, and only then decide whether the lifetime pack is worth it.
