What Hello8 is
Hello8 is a web platform for subtitles and subtitle translation. You upload a video, it transcribes the speech, translates it if you want, and times the lines. Then a feature it calls the AI Reviewer reads each subtitle against the video and flags mistakes before you export.
That last step is the point. Hello8’s tagline is “Subtitles you don’t have to fix.” Plenty of tools can auto-generate captions. Fewer try to proofread them. Hello8 says manual review takes 6 to 10 times the length of the video, and the AI Reviewer does it in minutes.
The founder, Gary Sztajnman, says on the About page that Hello8 grew out of 15 years in AI and video and more than 10,000 videos delivered. Hello8 is hosted in Europe, prices in euros, and says it uses models from OpenAI, Google Gemini, ElevenLabs and Gladia under the hood.
One thing to clear up: the AI tool directory our readers came from lists Hello8 as a “video translator and dubbing” tool. The current product does not do dubbing. It translates subtitles, not voices.
Who it is for
Hello8 fits you if:
- You deliver subtitles to clients, festivals, broadcasters or museums, where a typo is a real problem.
- You subtitle in more than one language and need consistent names and terms.
- You run e-learning or corporate training videos with a glossary of product names.
- You work with a team that needs to review and sign off on subtitles.
Skip it if:
- You want bold, animated captions for TikTok, Reels or Shorts. Hello8 makes clean, standard subtitles, not social caption styles.
- You want a full video editor with captions as one feature.
- You need dubbed audio in another language.
- You only caption a few short clips a month. A free or cheaper social caption tool will do.
Hello8 says it is built for four groups: documentary filmmakers, corporate training teams, video agencies and cultural institutions. Its marketing matches that. Solo creators can use it, but the features assume you care about delivery standards.
How it works
Hello8 describes three steps.
- Drop your file. Video or audio, in any of 90+ languages.
- AI transcribes, AI Reviewer checks. Transcription and translation run first. Then you can run the Reviewer, which checks reading speed, punctuation and consistency.
- You approve and export. Accept or reject each suggested fix, then export SRT or VTT, or render a video with the subtitles burned in.
The AI Reviewer
The Reviewer is a set of AI checks that run over the whole video. Hello8 lists grammar, conjugation, translation, hesitation, glossary and punctuation. Each problem appears on the timeline with a suggested fix and an Apply button. Hello8’s homepage demo shows it catching a French agreement error, “informé” that should be “informée.”
Recent changelog entries add detail:
- Translation fidelity is now part of the review. Hello8 says it compares each subtitle with the source and flags changed names or numbers, dropped passages and mistranslations.
- Live progress. You can watch each check run and read a log of what it flagged.
- Re-review only what changed. After a first pass, a second review only reads the lines you edited, and you pay only for those.
- Free AI Check-up. A quick free scan counts fillers, repetitions and false starts so you can decide if a full review is worth it.
- Your first review is free, according to the September 2026 changelog.
Hello8 also offers a separate, paid human review by a linguist, priced per project.
Cleaning up speech
Hello8’s homepage demo shows a raw interview transcript full of “um”, false starts and repeated words turned into clean, readable lines. The example counts 12 fillers removed, 8 repetitions merged and 5 non-verbal cues cleaned. It is a vendor demo, but it shows the intent. Hello8 writes subtitles meant to be read, not verbatim transcripts.
The editor and QA
The editor is built for subtitlers. Hello8 lists frame-accurate timing, waveform navigation, keyboard shortcuts and a split-screen preview. Per-language QA checks characters per second, line length, timing overlaps and typography rules such as French guillemets.
Other tools around the editor:
- Glossaries and Briefing set names, terms and rules once per project.
- Retranslate proposes a new version of a line without overwriting your edits.
- Speaker detection labels each speaker automatically.
- Collaboration lets several people edit at once, with reviewer and editor roles and a review tracking panel on Pro.
Output quality
We have not run our own videos through Hello8, so quality claims here are Hello8’s. It advertises 99.5% accuracy, but does not say how that figure is measured or on what kind of audio. Treat it as a headline, not a guarantee.
What you can reasonably expect:
- Transcription quality depends on the audio. Hello8 says it handles accents, technical terms and multiple speakers. Clean, close-mic audio will always do better than a noisy street interview.
- The Reviewer catches language errors, not judgment calls. It can flag a wrong verb ending or a dropped number. It will not know your client prefers “colleagues” to “team members” unless you put that in a glossary.
- Translation is AI translation. Hello8 is upfront that human review is a separate paid add-on. For legal, medical or broadcast work, budget for a human pass.
The best test is the free plan. Upload a 3 to 5 minute clip with typical audio, run transcription and the free Check-up, and read the result in the editor. You will not be able to download it, but you will see whether it needs much fixing.
Pricing
Hello8 prices only in euros. We did not find a USD price on the site, so we do not list a dollar “from” price. If you pay with a US card, your bank converts the charge at its own rate.
| Plan | Yearly | Monthly | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | EUR 0 | EUR 0 | 10 credits, 5-min videos, 3 uploads, no downloads |
| Starter | EUR 19/mo (EUR 228/yr) | EUR 29 | 300 credits, SRT/VTT/TXT export, burned-in MP4, 30-min videos |
| Pro | EUR 69/mo (EUR 828/yr) | EUR 89 | 1,500 credits, projects, proper names, review tracking, 3-hour videos |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | SSO, volume discounts, SLAs |
Extra seats on Pro cost EUR 25 a month on yearly billing or EUR 30 monthly. Top-up credits are EUR 0.20 each.
How credits work:
- 1 credit = 1 minute of AI transcription or AI translation.
- The AI Reviewer costs 5 credits a minute. The October 2026 changelog says it used to be 10 for review plus meaning, now combined into 5.
- A full run adds up. Transcribe, translate and review one 10-minute video and you spend 10 + 10 + 50 = 70 credits. Starter’s 300 credits cover about four of those a month.
- Subscription credits reset monthly. Purchased top-up credits never expire.
Things to watch:
- The free plan is a test drive only. No downloads, 3 uploads, and 10 credits cover two minutes of AI review at most.
- The Reviewer is where the money goes. If you only need transcription, Starter’s 300 credits stretch to five hours.
- Export formats differ by page. Pricing lists SRT, VTT and TXT; the features page and FAQ add ASS and SDH. Check the export dialog before you promise a format to a client.
Refunds
Hello8 does not refund unused subscription credits, and top-up credits are non-refundable once bought. It asks you to email [email protected] for exceptional cases. Test on the free plan before you buy.
Hello8 next to social caption tools
It helps to be clear about what Hello8 is competing with. Social caption apps aim at speed and style: big animated words, emoji, keyword highlights and templates for vertical video. Hello8 aims at correctness and delivery: reading speed, line length, timing rules, glossaries and formats a broadcaster or festival will accept.
That shows up in small details from Hello8’s changelog. Spelled-out numbers become digits before reading speed is measured. A capitalization check skips lines after an ellipsis or abbreviation so it does not “cry wolf.” A review tracking panel shows which subtitles a human has actually watched. None of that matters for a 20-second TikTok. All of it matters for a documentary going to a festival in four languages.
If your work sits in both worlds, you can use Hello8 for the master subtitle files and a social tool for short promo clips.
Verdict
Hello8 is a careful, professional subtitle tool. The AI Reviewer, the reading-speed checks and the glossary system are aimed at people who deliver subtitles to someone who will notice mistakes. If that is you, it is worth a serious test, especially if you work in several languages.
It is not a social caption tool. There are no animated styles, no emoji and no hook templates, and the euro-only pricing and per-minute review cost make it pricier than creator-focused caption apps for the same minutes. If you mostly need flashy captions on short clips, choose one of the alternatives below. If you need subtitles you can hand to a client without a second proofread, start with Hello8’s free plan.
