Kling AI closes a second round of nearly $3 billion

Kuaishou says its Kling AI unit raised about 19.8 billion yuan, its second big round since July. Kuaishou keeps control of the video model maker.

Kuaishou says Beijing Kling, the unit behind the Kling AI video models, has closed a funding round of about 19.8 billion yuan, or roughly $2.98 billion, Reuters reports.

It is the second round of that size this year. According to Reuters, Kling raised $2.8 billion in July from investors including Alibaba and Tencent, at a pre-money valuation of $15 billion. Kuaishou still keeps about two-thirds of the equity and 52.45% of the voting rights through a holding company.

Reuters names some of the new backers: a unit of Kingdee International (300 million yuan), Gongqingcheng Junke (200 million yuan) and a unit of chipmaker MetaX (100 million yuan). Kuaishou didn’t say how the money will be spent. Reuters also cites an earlier Bloomberg report that Kling is preparing for a listing next year.

What it means for you: Kling now has one of the deepest war chests of any video model maker, so it is unlikely to disappear or stop releasing models. The round itself doesn’t change Kling’s plans or credit costs today.
