CapCut is bringing prompt-based video editing into ChatGPT

CapCut announced a ChatGPT plugin that turns prompts and your own clips into an editable draft. It is not live yet, and price, plans and countries are unannounced.

CapCut, the ByteDance editor, plans to put its editing tools inside ChatGPT. TechRepublic reports, citing Mashable, that CapCut announced the plugin at its October 24 creator event in Los Angeles.

Here is how it works, per both outlets. You describe the video you want and upload footage. ChatGPT drafts a brief covering format, pacing and style, then opens a CapCut project with a real timeline. You change things with follow-up prompts or by hand, and ChatGPT keeps your manual edits in context so the next prompt picks up from there. In CapCut’s demo on X, five football clips became a 12-second vertical highlight reel, and a second prompt added a “GOAL!” title from the strike to the end.

CapCut says the plugin is coming soon. According to TechRepublic, it has not said what it will cost, which ChatGPT plans will get it, or which countries come first.

If you already plan scripts in ChatGPT, this could cut out the jump to a separate editor for quick social clips. Until it ships, judge CapCut on the app and web editor you can use today.
