Synthesia vs Vyond
Two AI video tools side by side: pricing, free plans, features and who each one suits.
#3 in AI avatars

The enterprise standard for AI avatar videos, built for training, onboarding and internal comms in 140+ languages
Best for: Companies and L&D teams that need a lot of presenter-style training or explainer video in many languages, with security and approval controls.
#43 in Text to video

A business video platform that turns prompts, documents and URLs into animated, avatar and mixed-media videos for training, HR and sales teams
Best for: L&D, HR, internal comms and sales enablement teams that need on-brand animated and avatar explainers, training modules and SCORM exports at scale.
Synthesia or Vyond?
Both sell to training and HR teams, but they make different videos. Synthesia is built around a presenter: an AI avatar reading your script. Vyond is built around animation, with avatars as one ingredient among characters, charts and screen recordings. If you want a person on screen, Synthesia gives you far more avatar minutes per dollar. If you want animated lessons, Vyond is the better tool.
What each one is built for
Synthesia’s whole workflow assumes a talking head, with a large stock avatar library, personal avatars behind a live consent check, and voices in 140+ languages. Its plan table lists a 3-minute cap per video, so long lessons get split into chapters. Vyond lets a single video run 25 minutes on Starter and adds Photo to Character and Video to Action for custom animated figures. Vyond also lists SCORM among its exports, while Synthesia keeps SCORM on Enterprise.
What it costs at typical use
Say an L&D team publishes 6 three-minute videos a month. That is 18 minutes.
As avatar videos:
- Synthesia Starter, $18/mo billed yearly ($216 a year), covers about 22 minutes a month by Synthesia’s own figures. It fits, with a little slack if the avatar is not on screen the whole time.
- Vyond charges 40 to 50 credits per 10 characters of avatar speech. 18 minutes is roughly 16,000 characters, or 65,000 to 80,000 credits by our math. Starter has 10,000 and Professional 20,000. You would need Enterprise at $1,649 a year.
As animated videos with standard voiceover:
- Vyond Starter at $699 a year handles it. Six Vyond Go drafts use 4,800 credits, and 16,000 characters of standard text-to-speech uses about 3,200 more.
- Synthesia is not built for this. Every scene centers on the avatar.
Which to pick
- Pick Synthesia if you want a presenter on screen, need many languages, or want a free plan to test with (no downloads until Starter). See the Synthesia review.
- Pick Vyond if your lessons need animation, screen recordings or charts, run longer than 3 minutes, or must ship as SCORM below enterprise pricing. See the Vyond review.

Strengths and weaknesses
Synthesia
- Free plan with no credit card, enough to test the editor properly
- Very wide language and voice coverage
- Strong security story (SOC 2, GDPR, ISO 42001, SSO on Enterprise)
- Consent check on personal avatars reduces misuse risk
- Videos update in place across links, embeds and your LMS
- PowerPoint and document import fits how training teams already work
- Free videos carry a watermark and cannot be downloaded
- The pricing table lists a 3-minute video length on every tier, which is short for full lessons
- Credit system makes it hard to predict how many minutes you really get
- Many headline features (1-click translation, SSO, SCORM, brand kits) are Enterprise only
- Aimed at corporate communication, so it is a weak fit for TikTok-style creator content
- No pay-per-video option
Vyond
- Covers animation, avatars, screen recording and stock footage in one tool
- SCORM export drops training videos straight into an LMS
- Vyond Go gets you from a PDF or slide deck to a draft fast
- Yearly billing cuts the Starter price by about 40% against monthly
- Enterprise security, FedRAMP option and brand controls for large companies
- Paid exports never carry a watermark
- No free plan, only a trial with watermarked exports
- At $58 a month per user billed yearly, Starter costs more than most creator tools' top tiers
- Avatar speech costs 40 to 50 credits per 10 characters, so Starter covers only a few minutes of avatar narration a month
- Each Vyond Go draft costs 800 credits, about 12 drafts on Starter if you spend on nothing else
- Enterprise and Agency are yearly only
- Vyond does not name the models behind its generated clips, images and voices
