Synthesia vs Colossyan
Two ai avatars tools side by side: pricing, free plans, features and who each one suits.
#3 in AI avatars

The enterprise standard for AI avatar videos, built for training, onboarding and internal comms in 140+ languages
Best for: Companies and L&D teams that need a lot of presenter-style training or explainer video in many languages, with security and approval controls.
#16 in AI avatars

An AI avatar video platform for training teams that turns PDFs, decks and URLs into presenter-led videos, interactive courses and translations
Best for: L&D, HR and enablement teams that need to turn existing documents into presenter-led training videos and SCORM courses in many languages.
Synthesia or Colossyan?
Synthesia and Colossyan chase the same buyer: training and HR teams that turn documents into presenter videos. The deciding question is whether you need to push videos into an LMS. If you do, Colossyan gives you SCORM on a $59 plan, while Synthesia saves it for Enterprise. If you just need short videos, Synthesia is cheaper to start.
What each one is built for
Synthesia is the broader platform. It lists 140+ languages, a large stock avatar library, interactive video on Pro and a strong security record. Many of its team features, including SCORM, SSO and 1-click translation, are Enterprise only.
Colossyan goes further into course building. Its Cora agent drafts a scene plan from a PDF, deck or URL, and nothing renders until you approve it. Quizzes, branching and a course builder are part of the package, and SCORM export with quiz scores starts on Professional. It lists 100+ languages for translation.
What it costs at typical use
Assume an L&D team producing 20 minutes of finished video a month, with downloads.
- Synthesia Starter: $18 a month billed yearly, about 22 minutes a month including the free allowance. It fits 20 minutes, but has no SCORM and only one editor.
- Colossyan Professional: $59 a month billed yearly for 30 NEO minutes and 10 NEO2 minutes, plus 5 SCORM exports a month. If all 20 minutes use the newer NEO2 avatars, you run short; a 600-minute NEO2 pack is $1,500 a year.
Without SCORM, Synthesia costs about $492 less a year. With SCORM, the comparison is Colossyan’s $59 against an unpublished Synthesia Enterprise quote.
Seats change the math too. Colossyan adds editors at $30 a month each, up to three. Synthesia Starter gives one editor plus three guests.
On free plans, Colossyan offers 20 NEO minutes a month and Synthesia about 10. Both watermark and block downloads, so either works for a real test.
Which to pick
- Pick Synthesia if you need the widest language list, want the lowest entry price for short modules, or your company already has an Enterprise budget. See the Synthesia review.
- Pick Colossyan if your videos go into an LMS with quiz scores, you want interactive courses without an Enterprise contract, or you like approving a plan before spending minutes. See the Colossyan review.

Strengths and weaknesses
Synthesia
- Free plan with no credit card, enough to test the editor properly
- Very wide language and voice coverage
- Strong security story (SOC 2, GDPR, ISO 42001, SSO on Enterprise)
- Consent check on personal avatars reduces misuse risk
- Videos update in place across links, embeds and your LMS
- PowerPoint and document import fits how training teams already work
- Free videos carry a watermark and cannot be downloaded
- The pricing table lists a 3-minute video length on every tier, which is short for full lessons
- Credit system makes it hard to predict how many minutes you really get
- Many headline features (1-click translation, SSO, SCORM, brand kits) are Enterprise only
- Aimed at corporate communication, so it is a weak fit for TikTok-style creator content
- No pay-per-video option
Colossyan
- Free Starter plan with 20 minutes a month and access to every stock avatar
- Document-to-video workflow fits teams that already have the content written
- You approve a plan before any minutes are spent
- Interactive video and SCORM export are rare in avatar tools at this price
- Translation keeps script, voice and on-screen text in sync
- SOC 2 Type II and GDPR, and Colossyan says it does not train on your content
- Built for corporate training, not social or creator content
- Starter plan videos carry a watermark and cannot be downloaded as MP4
- Starter gets only half a minute a month of the newer NEO2 avatars
- Pricing page says "Free" next to "$27/mo" and mentions both a free plan and a 14-day trial
- Unused minutes do not roll over and deleting a video does not refund its minutes
- Extra editors cost $30 a month each and Professional caps at 3 editors
