CapCut or Wondershare Filmora?

CapCut wins for short-form social video, especially if you edit on a phone. Filmora wins when your videos are longer, live on YouTube, and need a proper desktop timeline. Many creators end up using both: CapCut for quick posts, Filmora for the bigger edits.

What each one is built for

CapCut is built for speed on small screens. Templates, styled captions and effects get a trend video out in minutes, and the same account works on your phone, browser and computer.

Filmora is a desktop editor first, with mobile apps on the side. You get multicam, keyframes with curves, tracking, color wheels and LUTs, plus a screen recorder that keeps each source on its own track. That depth is what CapCut lacks for long tutorials or client work. The AI toolbox is wide in both. Filmora offers Veo, Sora and Seedance generation, while CapCut sticks to ByteDance’s Seedance.

What it costs at typical use

Assume a YouTuber editing 8 ten-minute videos a month on a laptop, with AI subtitles on each.

  • CapCut: the free plan covers editing and auto captions. Cost: likely $0. Pro, at MYR 314.9 a year when we checked, adds premium templates and AI credits.
  • Filmora: the free version watermarks every export, so you need a paid plan. Most AI features, subtitles included, are paid with credits, and Basic includes none. Advanced at $59.99 a year gives 1,000 credits a month, about $5 a month. Unused credits vanish when the next batch lands. If you hate subscriptions, the $79.99 perpetual license covers Filmora 16 on one platform.

Wondershare showed us a second, lower price set the same day, so confirm at checkout. Also cancel the Creative Assets trial if you do not want it, since it renews at $9.99 a month.

Which to pick

  • Pick CapCut if you post shorts, follow trends, edit on your phone, and want to pay nothing.
  • Pick Filmora if you make longer YouTube, course or business videos on Windows or Mac and want real editing depth for under $60 a year.
